I have moved it over because I want to concentrate on using computers in here and not too much business-related.

I’ve just upgraded my Wordpress installation on this Blog to version 2.7. I’m not only very pleased with how the Wordpress upgrade plugin worked, but also the new interface looks good – although it takes a bit of getting used to.

Once I’d done the upgrade I had to install some plugins here which I also run on my other, main blog – Acmeweblog.

The plugins I use are

  • Tweet My Blog, which automatically tweets whenever I make a post (which is probbaly why you are here).
  • All In One SEO – helps get my blog out on the ’streets’.
  • What Would Seth Godin Do – that’s the little welcome line at the top of the post.
  • Google XML Sitemap – generates a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of my WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO.

All very cool stuff. Just go to the plugins section in Wordpress to find them.

Most of them were advised by Become A Blogger – where you can also find free videos about setting up Wordpress and a free blogging Roadmap report. Go to the Become A Blogger site here.

This lynda-hill.com blog is the very first proper ‘big’ blog that I set up. Before this I was using Blogger about once a year! (I still use Blogger for quick and simple stuff – supposedly gets indexed faster too.)

If you look back through the posts here, you will see that it is very disjointed. I really didn’t know what I wanted to write about. However, I was advised to write about anything as long as I did it regularly, so that’s what I did. I have been neglecting it lately though.

So, I’m still deciding what I’m really going to do with lynda-hill, but I think I’m headed towards the ‘using computers’ niche. Yes, that’s what I’ll do.

(Now for some re-designing I think.)

Thanks for looking – and don’t forget to visit my main blog at AcmeWeblog (I’m planning to put some free goodies in there soon.

Happy New Year everyone!

Majel Barrett Roddenberry dies aged 76

Hot from the BBC

** Trek creator’s widow dies aged 76 **
Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, dies of leukaemia aged 76.
Here’s a Wikipedia link too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majel_Barrett
As a dyed in the wood Star Trek fan this can not go unremarked by me.
As all Trekkers will know, apart from being in the pilot episode back in the 1960s, Majel also voiced most of the computers on the USS Enterprise – including in the new film! Amazing lady.
Sad day.
